Premier hotel executives and officials got together to learn about the various ‘alternative business models’ that can be implemented in the hospitality industry at this year’s Arabian Hotel Investment Conference (AHIC), which took place in Dubai on 28th April at Madinat Jumeirah.

RCI, the global leader in vacation exchange, and its luxury leisure property exchange programme, The Registry Collection®, collaborated for the third successive year to co-host the Shared Ownership Interactive Masterclass – Alternative Business Models in Hospitality Investment & Developer Financing workshop.

Dimitris Manikis, vice president of Business Development for RCI EMEA: “We were overwhelmed with the fantastic turnout of developers, investors and hotel brands. It was one of our best events in the region.

The alternative business models discussed at the dedicated one-day event, were timeshare vacation clubs, fractional ownership and branded residential – all relatively new concepts to the region.

This year’s interactive event included a panel of distinguished speakers who offered key industry stakeholders, hotel brands, resort owners, investors and industry consultants a valuable insight into alternative developer business finance strategies.

The panelists shared their experiences on various strategies and highlighted how the alternative models have influenced the investment profile of the leading developments they have managed.

Speakers included Scott Woroch, executive vice president, global, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Samer Abu Ayash, senior vice president, Kingdom Hotel Investments, and Jurgen Baumhoff, COO Emaar Hospitality Group.

The American Resort Development Association (ARDA) is scheduled to address Home Owners Association (HOA) and resort management challenges at its upcoming ARDA Northeast meeting in Providence, Rhode Island on June 4 and 5, 2012. Resort operators including HOA board members, managers, and developers will be attending to network and share industry information.

According to ARDA New England chairman and president of InnSeason Resorts Dennis Ducharme, resorts are facing greater challenges than ever before. “As many of our timeshare resorts have aged, so have their original owners,” says Ducharme. “Many of them are facing changes in their financial condition or ability to travel and are no longer interested in retaining their week. One of the topics we’re addressing at the meeting will be a case study of a resort that is successfully dealing with this situation.”

This article: Who is the Largest Timeshare Resort Manager? was written by Staff Writer

Even if you think you know a lot about timeshares and vacation ownership, you might not be able to answer the question: Who is the largest timeshare resort manager?

The surprise answer is Interval International; surprising to many because people tend to think of II as one of the largest names in timeshare exchange and a provider of other types of vacation and travel services, but not as provider of resort management services. However, Interval International’s interest as a timeshare resort manager is growing at a remarkable pace; not by leaps and bounds but by leaps and acquisitions.

In February 2012, II purchased VRI, Vacation Resorts International.  As Craig Nash, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Interval Leisure Group explains, “With the acquisition of VRI and ILG’s (Interval Leisure Group) existing management interests, Interval Leisure Group becomes the largest independent provider of resort and homeowner association management services to the shared ownership industry. ILG companies now deliver these services to more than 180 timeshare resort and club locations and 325,000 owner families.”

Slightly more than a year earlier, in November of 2010, Interval International announced it had acquired all of the equity in Trading Places International. At that time, TPI was a California-based provider of timeshare exchange and leisure services to more than 300,000 vacation owners, including providing onsite property management at over 20 United States timeshare resorts located throughout the US mainland and Hawaii, as well as in Mexico.
